Council Cop — Policing the Process, Not the Politics

About Council Cop

All politics is local—and it needs to be watched.

Council Cop watches local government meetings and examines how public business is conducted. We hold elected officials, government employees, and members of the public accountable to fair, lawful, and orderly procedures. We also recognize officials and citizens when they handle difficult situations responsibly and government works as it should.

POLICING THE PROCESS
NOT THE POLITICS

Council Cop is nonpartisan. We do not favor political parties, candidates, officials, activists, or ideological positions. We examine the conduct, rules, policies, decisions, and procedures involved in each matter based on the available facts and governing standards.

Our reporting may address whether a policy is valid, lawful, clearly written, properly adopted, consistently enforced, or fairly applied. Evaluating a policy in this way is part of evaluating the governmental process.

Council Cop uses public meeting recordings, agendas, minutes, government policies, public records, interviews, viewer submissions, and other relevant sources. We aim to provide sufficient context, distinguish verified facts from opinion, identify uncertainty, and give affected parties a reasonable opportunity to respond when fairness requires it.

Council Cop is an independent media and commentary project. It is not affiliated with any government body, political party, campaign, law-enforcement agency, or public official.

About the Founder

Council Cop was founded from firsthand experience with local government—from both sides of the council table.

The founder began as a member of the public attending local meetings and speaking about community concerns. That participation led to service with volunteer town groups working on public projects and, eventually, a successful campaign for local office.

During nine years on the town council, the founder spent three years representing a minority viewpoint and six years serving with a governing majority. During those six years, the council completed several long-unfinished town plans and projects. The founder was elected council chair twice and also served as vice chair and parliamentarian.

That experience provides Council Cop with a practical understanding of public participation, minority viewpoints, majority responsibility, parliamentary procedure, policy development, and the challenges officials face when conducting the public’s business.

Council Cop is not built on the assumption that officials are always wrong or that members of the public are always right. Both deserve fair scrutiny, and both deserve recognition when they act responsibly.

The founder’s previous public service informs Council Cop’s analysis but does not determine its conclusions. Council Cop is independent, nonpartisan, and committed to judging each matter on its facts, governing rules, and complete context.
